Feburary 17, 2011 | Amherst College Career Center | Amherst, MA – I’m proud to be back at my alma mater, Amherst College, for a discussion with current college students on the importance of social media and professional networking in their job search and personal branding.
Social media is still not a discipline taught in most colleges, yet most college students are well-versed in social networking and the technology and are even active participants in the social media campaigns of many consumer brands. From a career and professional branding perspective, however, understanding the potential dangers as well as opportunities that social media provides can make or break your job search.
Join me as I discuss with the leaders of the future how they can be taking advantage of the opportunities that social media brings to establish a strong professional brand, find job and other opportunities through networking, and understand how to project their public persona while avoiding the pitfalls that cost many their jobs because of misuse of social media tools. Topics covered will include:
- How to use LinkedIn as a primary tool for online branding and networking
- Understanding the potential that Twitter can provide
- The impact that Facebook can have on the job search
- The power of blogging your way to your future career
I look forward to seeing everyone on campus!
