I do know of someone in a similar situation who always had a fake name and logo instead of photo online, and when I challenged her, she had a similar story. Being active in social media only makes it easier for you to be found, so if you don't want to be found, you are right, you need to be extra careful. On the other hand, this could limit the number of people who interact with you and if/how they develop relationships with you, but it sounds like, in your case, a risk worth taking. Fortunately my initial & surname are a fairly common combination, and I'm on social media for personal reasons instead of business reasons. I am not going to voluntarily silence myself by staying away from social media. This is one of the plusses of social media from my perspective - now people with experiences similar to mine can be online, telling our stories in safety, where in the past we would have been forced to shut up and virtually hide ourselves away for our own safety.  We no longer have to sweep stories of shameful behaviour (like that of my ex towards my children & I) under the carpet because it's too risky for us to tell these stories.
