Over the past several months, the Internet Marketers have figured LinkedIn out and are now aggressively creating fake profiles and trying to connect with open networkers. I am now looking at each one, similar to you, that doesn't personalize the invite. My new rules for connecting are: No Photo, No Bio, and/or No _Recommendations_ means I won't accept your request. I've written about how to spot fake LinkedIn profiles in this blog, so if you take a few seconds its easy to spot them. Now I'm starting to report their invites as Spam to LinkedIn as well as respond with IDKs. It's a different world on LinkedIn these days, and we need to fight back! My rule is that I'll accept someone I don't know, but only if they have a connection in common or send me a private message that explains the context. I suppose there is no real downside to having people you don't know on your list, but at the same time, I wonder about these folks with no photos, an incomplete profile, and only 5 other connections.
